DIRECT CARE STAFF

 SUMMARY:
Direct Care Staff plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities in both community and residential settings. They are well-equipped to assist individuals in communicating their requests and needs for services and supports and implementing personalized services that align with each person's goals and outcomes as outlined in their Individual Support Plans (ISP). With their expertise, Direct Care Staff provide reliable and exceptional care, ensuring that individuals receive the highest quality of support and attention.

 QUALIFICATIONS:
Direct Care staff must perform all essential duties proficiently. They need a high school diploma or GED and a year of experience working with individuals who have IDD/MI diagnosis. They also need a valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance. They must keep their training and certifications up-to-date and maintain their proficiency as required. They must also keep their CPR and First Aid certification, Medication Administration (if administering medications), NCI certification, and other training current.

JOB DUTIES

  • Attend monthly meetings with a clinical supervisor and administrative supervisor as needed.
  • Stay up to date with necessary training. 
  • Clear criminal, healthcare registry, and driving records check before employment.
  • Provide service to meet the personal care needs of individuals in licensed residential settings.
  • Help individuals with skills related to daily activities. 
  • Assist individuals in identifying personal outcomes and accomplishing goals.
  • Understand and promote an individual's goals, dignity, respect, and rights.
  • Document necessary information.
  • Manage medication and provide transportation.
  • Ensure safety and report accidents, hazards, and needed repairs immediately.
  • Keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Protect and advocate for client rights.
  • Report incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation immediately.
  • Complete the shift task checklist and notify the supervisor immediately if unable to complete program tasks.
  •  Practice universal medical precautions and help the home manager with relevant duties.
