HABILITATION TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY:

Habilitation Technicians provide support and care to individuals with disabilities in community settings and day programs. They assist individuals in expressing their needs and achieving their goals as outlined in the Individual Support Plan.

 QUALIFICATIONS:
Habilitation Technicians are expected to competently carry out each of their essential duties. As a prerequisite, candidates for this role ought to possess a high school diploma or GED, and have at least a year of experience working with individuals diagnosed with IDD/MI. Moreover, Habilitation Technicians must hold a valid driver's license, in addition to personal vehicle insurance coverage. To remain proficient in their job, Habilitation Technicians must undertake trainings and certifications, and maintain CPR and First Aid certification, Medication Administration (if administering medications), NCI certification, and other essential trainings as deemed necessary by their management.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Attend monthly clinical supervision and administrative supervision as needed.
• Keep up-to-date with Innovations, Competencies, and other necessary training.
•  Before employment, undergo a criminal, healthcare registry, and driving record check. Annual record checks may also be required.
• Provide personal care and habilitation services to individuals receiving support.
• Help individuals participate in home, day program, employment, and community activities.
• Assist individuals with acquiring, retaining, or improving their skills for daily living.
• Help individuals achieve their goals as listed in their ISP.
•  Respect and promote the rights and dignity of each individual.
• Encourage individuals to make choices and take control of themselves and their environment.
• Support individuals to maintain the skills gained through habilitation and training.
• Record and document required information and complete Innovations Grids or daily progress notes as needed.
• Provide transportation as specified in the ISP.
• Ensure safety and report accidents, hazards, and necessary repairs immediately.
• Understand and follow company policies regarding safety, fire drills, location and use of exits, and fire extinguishers.
• Keep sensitive information confidential.
• Respect client rights.
• Report any incidents of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or suspicion of such immediately.
• Notify the supervisor immediately if unable to complete program tasks as outlined, or if behavior or activities produce unexpected and unusual results or consequences.
• Use personal protective and safety equipment.
• Perform other relevant duties as required.
